Libya’s Tripoli Ministry of Transport’s Civil Aviation Authority released a statement yesterday about the Cessna private jet that crashed at Misrata Airport:

‘‘With reference to the decision issued by the Minister of Transportation of the Government of National Unity—Decision No. (609) of 2026—regarding the formation of a committee to investigate the incident involving a Turkish Cessna Citation Latitude 680 aircraft veering off Runway 15 at Misrata International Airport on September 14, 2026:

The committee immediately proceeded to Misrata Airport to investigate the incident. The latest developments regarding the committee’s work are as follows:

– Obtaining statements from the flight crew.

– Obtaining a statement from the air traffic controller on duty.

– Obtaining a statement from the head of the control tower unit.

– Retrieving and listening to the air traffic control unit’s recordings in the presence of committee members and accompanied by the Director of the Navigation Department at the Civil Aviation Authority, the Safety Director of the Air Navigation Department, the Director of the Central Region Branch of the Civil Aviation Authority, and the head of the tower unit at Misrata Airport.

– Both “black boxes” (the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder) were recovered; they will be decoded later at a specialized centre, following expedited authorization from the Minister of Transportation.

– The aircraft wreckage was transported to and secured within an enclosed hangar for examination.

– The aircraft’s path on the runway surface was traced from the point of initial wheel contact to its final stopping point.

In accordance with established procedures, blood samples were collected from the flight crew by the relevant authorities for specialized analysis. The results revealed the presence of blood alcohol levels capable of impairing concentration and human performance.

The investigation is ongoing, and all relevant entities have been notified in compliance with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).’’
