NUL names Molati acting Vice-Chancellor

The 16th Council has named an acting head for the National University of Lesotho, a day after the Vice-Chancellor’s term ended.

The National University of Lesotho has an acting Vice-Chancellor. At its second special meeting, held on 2 August 2026, the 16th Council endorsed Professor Motlatsi Molati, the acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, to assume the post.

According to a circular from the Office of the Registrar, the endorsement was made in terms of Section 17(4) of the NUL Act and in implementation of a Court of Appeal order dated 5 June 2026.

The circular says that, following his appointment, the acting Vice-Chancellor named Associate Professor Regina Thetsane as acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor, with effect from 3 August 2026.

The changes follow the departure of Prof. Isaac Olusola Fajana, the 10th Vice-Chancellor, whose contract ended after five years in office. The circular is signed by the acting Registrar, Dr Lipalesa Mathe.
