LNFOD celebrates Albinism Awareness Day – The Reporter Lesotho

The Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (LNFOD) marked International Albinism Awareness Day 2026 on Saturday, with a call to reject colour-based discrimination and recognise the full humanity of persons with albinism.

This year’s global theme, “Proudly In My Skin: Celebrating All Skin Tones,” shifts attention from appearance to rights, dignity, and leadership.

LNFOD said the theme challenges everyday behaviours that are often dismissed as harmless including staring, mocking comments, exclusion, and stereotypes but which can cause lasting emotional harm, especially for children and young people.

In a statement, the organisation noted that persons with albinism in Lesotho face a ‘double burden’ -stigma tied to skin tone and barriers linked to disability and they are committed to confront both forms of exclusion.

“On this day, we call on all Basotho to see past skin colour and celebrate the richness of our diversity,” it added.
