A guest at Semonkong Lodge turned an overnight pony trek through the Maluti Mountains into a watercolour painting, and the lodge has shared the result.

Rinni Bhansali rode into the mountains above Semonkong on an overnight pony trek and came back with a watercolour painting of what she saw. Semonkong Lodge posted the artwork on its Facebook page this week, along with a note of thanks to the guest who made it.

The trek was led by two of the lodge’s local guides, Nthethe and Moena. Overnight pony treks from Semonkong take riders into the high country of the Maluti range, with Basotho ponies carrying guests and gear over terrain that vehicles cannot reach.

The lodge described the painting as capturing the soul of the Maluti Mountains and said the work tells the story of a Lesotho adventure. Semonkong Lodge, in the Maseru district settlement best known for the Maletsunyane Falls, runs pony trekking, hiking and abseiling for visitors.
