Construction work tied to resettlement housing and village infrastructure for households affected by Phase II development activities is moving forward at a steady pace across multiple sites. The programme focuses on relocating and supporting families from Tloha-Re-Bue, Masakong, Ha Tlhakoa and Tsekong, ensuring that housing and essential services are delivered in line with project timelines. A total of 84 households are currently being resettled within the site establishment area, while additional work for 15 households from Tsekong is also advancing well. The process is designed to reduce disruption while improving living conditions through upgraded infrastructure and planned community layouts. Authorities and project teams continue to coordinate construction activities to maintain momentum and meet delivery targets.
Significant progress has been recorded in Tloha-Re-Bue, where 45 houses are currently under construction to accommodate relocated families. In addition to housing, essential community infrastructure is also being developed, including a preschool and a church that will serve as key social and educational spaces for residents. These facilities are intended to support long-term community stability and ensure that basic social needs are met within the new settlement area. Construction teams are working to align housing delivery with infrastructure completion so that families can transition into fully functional living environments. The integration of housing and community services reflects a structured approach to resettlement planning.
In Masakong, construction activities are also advancing with 13 houses currently under development for affected households. Alongside residential units, a preschool is being built to support early childhood education within the community. A community hall is also included in the development plan, offering a shared space for meetings, events and local governance activities. These developments aim to strengthen community cohesion while ensuring that relocated households maintain access to essential social infrastructure. Work in this area continues to focus on balancing speed of delivery with construction quality and long-term durability of facilities.
At Tsekong in Lilimala, progress includes 18 houses under construction, with 14 already roofed as part of the ongoing building phase. This indicates strong advancement toward completion for several households, with finishing works expected to follow roof installation. The resettlement effort in this area is part of the broader Phase II programme designed to ensure that all affected families are adequately accommodated. In parallel with housing development, water supply systems are being improved at Makalong and Ramonakalali to enhance access to reliable water for relocated communities. These upgrades are critical for supporting daily household needs and ensuring that essential services are available in resettlement areas.
The overall construction programme is scheduled for completion in 2027, providing a clear timeline for final delivery of housing and supporting infrastructure. Continued progress across all sites reflects coordinated planning between construction teams, service providers and community stakeholders. The focus remains on ensuring that affected households are resettled into safe, functional and well-serviced environments. As work continues, attention is being given to infrastructure quality, service reliability and community integration. The resettlement initiative represents a long-term investment in improving living conditions and supporting sustainable community development for all affected areas.
