Dana White calls Kyrgyz fighter Akbar Abdullaev a “huge talent” and welcomes him to UFC
AKIPRESS.COM – UFC CEO Dana White has praised Kyrgyz fighter Akbar Abdullaev as potentially the greatest talent to have appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series in its 10-year history.
Abdullaev, 28, knocked out Brazil’s Ednilson Barros Santos with a single right hand just 19 seconds into the first round during Week 6 of Season 10 in Las Vegas on September 15. The victory earned him a UFC contract.
After the fight, White told Abdullaev:
“I don’t even know what to say to you. That punch sounded like a baseball bat. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and I’m gonna call you possibly the greatest talent that has been on this show in 10 years. I think that you’re going to be a huge superstar and a very big threat in this sport. I can’t wait to see you fight again. Welcome to the UFC.”
The victory improved Abdullaev’s professional record to 14-0. He has finished all of his opponents, including 13 by knockout and one by submission.
Abdullaev previously competed in ONE Championship, where he went 5-0. He entered the Contender Series as one of the undefeated prospects seeking a UFC contract.
The September 15 event saw four fighters earn UFC contracts. Abdullaev was among them after his first-round knockout, while three other fighters — Mayton Perea, Igor Cavalcanti and Luis Hernandez — also secured deals.
Abdullaev is now set to begin his UFC career after making a strong impression on White and securing his 14th professional victory.
