Trump claims Iran settlement reached, Europe signing possible this weekend

US President Donald Trump has announced that a settlement with Iran has been reached, claiming that only final documentation remains before a formal agreement is signed, potentially in Europe as early as this weekend.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the deal marks a significant breakthrough after months of heightened tensions, military threats, and diplomatic deadlock between Washington and Tehran.

He suggested that the United States could be represented at the signing ceremony by Vice President JD Vance, while he would not attend personally.

“We’re going to be subject to finalisation of documents. It should get done over the next few days,” Trump told reporters, adding that the agreement could be signed “maybe in Europe” within days.

The announcement came shortly after Trump indicated a pause in planned military action, saying negotiations had progressed further than expected and had received approval at senior levels of Iran’s leadership.

Trump also linked the anticipated agreement to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, suggesting that improved relations could ease pressure on global energy markets, according to news agencies.

“The Strait of Hormuz will open as soon as we have it signed,” he said.

Despite Trump’s claims, Iranian officials have pushed back on the announcement. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Iran has not reached a final conclusion on any deal, although some elements have been discussed.

He accused Washington of introducing new demands during negotiations, insisting that Tehran would not compromise its “red lines.”
Trump said a key component of the proposed agreement is Iran’s commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, stating that Tehran had agreed to the condition.

“They will not have a nuclear weapon,” he said, claiming Iran had formally accepted the restriction.

Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme is peaceful and denies any intention to develop nuclear weapons.
Trump further claimed that regional powers, including Gulf states and several Middle Eastern countries, had been consulted and broadly supported the framework of the deal.

He also suggested that Iran’s leadership had endorsed the agreement, though he provided no official confirmation from Tehran.
