India’s engineering exports surge 21% as China demand strengthens

India’s engineering goods exports recorded strong growth in June, rising 21% year-on-year to $11.48 billion, marking the third consecutive month that shipments from the sector crossed the $10 billion threshold.

The growth was supported by robust demand from key international markets, with exports to China surging 74% compared with the same period last year, reaching $361.5 million.

The United States remained the largest market for Indian engineering products, with exports to the country nearing $2 billion during June. Shipments to Oman also registered significant growth, contributing to the sector’s overall performance.

Engineering products accounted for 28.4% of India’s total merchandise exports in June, highlighting the sector’s growing contribution to the country’s trade outlook.

During the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, engineering exports increased 18.1% to $34.14 billion, reflecting continued momentum despite global economic uncertainty and trade challenges.

The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) said exporters maintained resilience despite rising freight costs and logistical disruptions linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, which affected global shipping routes.

Industry representatives stressed that continued government support and measures to strengthen competitiveness will be essential to maintain export growth amid ongoing geopolitical risks and changing global trade conditions.
