The Second Circuit of the Court of Appeal, headed by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid and with the membership of Counselors Mutaib Al-Aradhi and Saud Al-Sane, sentenced a Bangladeshi drug dealer to life imprisonment, overturned the acquittal verdict, and upheld the 15-year prison sentence and KD 10,000 fine imposed on his two partners of the same nationality.
The Public Prosecution had charged the defendants with possessing cannabis (hashish) and psychotropic substances with the intent to trade. The second and third defendants were also charged with possessing heroin and psychotropic substances with the intent to trade, while the second defendant faced an additional charge of possessing hashish, heroin, and morphine with the intent to use.
A drug enforcement force raided the home of one of the accused in the Abu Halifa area following confidential information. During investigations, he confessed to the involvement of his partners and to storing a variety of drugs and psychotropic substances in Fintas in the possession of the second accused. The third accused was later arrested in the Mangaf area in possession of a variety of drugs.
While the Criminal Court had sentenced the defendants to 15 years imprisonment and a fine of KD 10,000 each, and acquitted the second and third defendants of heroin trafficking, the Court of Appeal overturned the acquittal of the main defendant, the second accused, on the heroin trafficking charge and sentenced him to life imprisonment on all related charges. The court also upheld the 15-year prison terms imposed on his two partners, according to Al Jarida.
