CJP protest rocks Jantar Mantar, demands Education Minister’s ouster

Heavy security in Delhi as Cockroach Janata Party holds high-voltage demonstration at Jantar Mantar; 7 key facts behind the demonstration

The self-styled “satirical political movement” Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) staged a protest at Jantar Mantar today (Saturday), demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over allegations linked to examination paper leaks, including national-level entrance tests such as NEET.

The protest has drawn attention not only for its demands but also for its unusual origins as an online satire-driven movement that has now moved into physical political mobilization.

Authorities have deployed an estimated 2,000 personnel in the New Delhi district. Police have heightened security across the capital, including outside key residences of top officials such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, citing precautionary measures amid the demonstration.

The CJP began as a satirical social media initiative and has since gained a significant following. It positions itself as a critique-driven platform engaging with unemployment, governance, and institutional accountability.

Several public figures including actor Prakash Raj, activist Sonam Wangchuk, and politician Manish Sisodia have been associated with or shown support for its broader messaging, according to supporters.

CJP has not been formally registered as a political party in India. However, it continues to function as an organised group participating in political commentary and street-level mobilisation.

The group is demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging administrative responsibility for recent examination paper leak incidents affecting major competitive exams across the country.

CJP spokespersons have claimed that systemic failures in exam security prompted the protest.

Delhi Police granted permission for the protest from 10 am to 5 pm. Founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived from the United States, was met by police officials upon landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport before being escorted to the site.

Officials say the deployment is precautionary and aimed at maintaining public order.

Key figures associated with the protest include spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, investigative journalist Saurav Das, and researcher-filmmaker Vijeta Dahiya.

Organisers claim the movement remains open to participation from across political and civil society lines, with supporters like Sonam Wangchuk expected to join.

The CJP reportedly originated following controversial remarks attributed in public discourse to Chief Justice Surya Kant during a court hearing, where metaphorical references sparked online backlash and satire-based mobilisation.

What began as digital commentary has now evolved into coordinated on-ground political expression, raising questions about the intersection of satire, activism, and organised protest in India’s evolving civic space.
