The United States resumed strikes against Iran on Tuesday, leading Tehran to respond with missile and drone fire as hostilities flare once again between the two countries.

The U.S. Central Command says the latest strikes were in response to Iran trying to attack commercial ships and American forces in the Middle East.

Iranian state media reported that the U.S. bombed civilian sites along its southern coast and hit a civilian airport.

One of the strikes hit a home hosting a wedding, killing two people and wounding dozens.

The U.S. strikes followed others on Sunday in the Strait of Hormuz that abruptly ended a month without military action.

The renewed fighting comes after Trump appeared to pivot last month toward punishing Iran economically with sanctions.
