Expectant Manchester mothers might want to take a close look to see if the woman delivering their baby this coming week is British sprinter Success Eduan.
The midwifery student secured one of the biggest paydays of her early career on Friday night in Budapest, pocketing 6,000 US dollars (£4,400) at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship with the mixed 4x100m relay quartet.
Eduan, the current British 200m champion, plans to become a full-time athlete, but first has to welcome a relay team’s worth of newborns into the world to satisfy the requirements of her programme.

“I’m finishing hopefully next week,” said Eduan, after the Britons finished third behind the United States and Jamaica. “I still have one more placement. Unfortunately I didn’t get my births two weeks ago, so I’m just going to get all my births done.
“I’ve got four more left to deliver. I arrive in Manchester on Monday afternoon, and I have a Monday night shift that day. Three nights, so I finish on Thursday morning.
“I’m hoping (I’ll get four), I usually do. September is usually a crazy month for babies.”
Eduan herself is a September baby and will turn 22 at the end of the month. She grew up in Spain before moving to Manchester, and switched from swimming to track after a teacher spotted her talent.
Her breakout year came in 2025, when she won the 200m European Under-23 title, then produced a stunning anchor leg at the World Relay Championships in Guangzhou, beating Shericka Jackson to bring home British gold – the only other comparable payout of her career.
“I don’t tell (my patients) anything,” she said. “It’s actually more the midwives that say something. I usually go in there like, ‘I just want to go in there and be a student midwife’.
“But they get told and they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, can I get a picture?’. But we do talk about it. Pretty much everybody knows.”
Romell Glave, Imani-Lara Lansiquot, Jeremiah Azu and Eduan crossed the finish line in 40.26 seconds and will split the winnings – 24,000 US dollars (£17,750), part of a USD10 million (£7.4m) prize pot – four ways.
