Road users urged to exercise caution amid persistent rain

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, NWA, Stephen Shaw, is urging motorists and other vulnerable road users to exercise caution as persistent rainfall affects sections of the island.

Videos circulating online show significant flooding along the Morant Bay main road in St. Thomas, while flooding has also been reported in Bath, St. Thomas, and sections of Portland.

The Met Service reports that a trough over the western Caribbean is generating widespread, disorganised showers and thunderstorms across the region.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone communities across St. Ann, St. Mary, Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and Clarendon.

The watch will remain in effect until 5pm Sunday.

Despite the reported flooding, Shaw says there has been no major damage to the country’s road network so far.
