Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison says the brutal murder of 10-year-old Shani Coke highlights the need for Jamaicans to play an active role in identifying threats against children and reporting suspected abuse.

Shani was found dead in Troy District in Trelawny on Tuesday.

Young Shani was on her way to a nearby shop in the community when she was allegedly abducted.

Her body was found partially nude in the afternoon, with her throat slashed.

The main suspect, Delroy Coke, and his father were set upon by an angry mob of residents and chopped several times.

Delroy, who is Shani’s cousin, was pronounced dead at hospital.

Gordon Harrison says jungle justice should not be the resolution when dealing with crimes against children.
