The Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, is calling on residents of Troy in Trelawny to remain calm following the killing of a 10-year-old girl in the community.

The body of Shani Coke was found in bushes in Tyre district near Troy on Tuesday, with her throat slashed.

An angry mob of residents set upon the main suspect, Delroy Coke, and his father, chopping them several times.

Delroy, who is Shani’s cousin, was later pronounced dead at hospital. The father’s condition is not known at this time.

One man, identified as ‘Max’, was arrested in connection with the deadly mob attack. This sparked a protest by scores of angry residents. They attempted to mount a road block, demanding his release.

Commanding officer for the Trelawny division, Superintendent Velonique Campbell, urged residents to maintain calm.

On Friday, Superintendent Campbell and members of the JCF’s Chaplain visited Shani’s family to offer support.
