Cooling down operations are underway on this Friday morning at Petrojam following a fire at the state-owned oil refinery Thursday night.

In an early morning statement, the company said the blaze resulted from an operational incident.

It says the fire was limited to a section of the refinery, and was swiftly brought under control by the company’s emergency response teams.

No injuries were reported.

Petrojam says it’s conducting an initial assessment of the damage as part of a wider investigation.

Meanwhile, General Manager Danville Walker says while some operational units remain shut down as a precautionary measure, the refinery continues to operate safely and reliably.

He says the blaze did not impact the storage and availability of fuel.

He says daily supplies will continue as normal from loading racks in Kingston and Montego Bay.

Petrojam is located on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston.

Sections of the refinery were damaged in a fire in March 2024.
