It’s a lie!
Prime Minister, Dr Andrew Holness, is hitting back at critics who say Hurricane Melissa donations have not led to visible results on the ground, one year after the category five system impacted the country.
The criticism is coming from popular dancehall artiste, Beenie Man.
Colliecia Wright reports.
Speaking during a recent interview with the UK-based ITV News, Beenie Man claimed that the government has misused the Hurricane Melissa donated funds.
But speaking at the commissioning ceremony for the Doppler Weather Radar in Cooper’s Hill, St. Andrew, on Wednesday, Prime Minister, Dr. Holness dismissed, the claim as false and misleading.
A May Auditor General report revealed that only 2-percent of over $1.4 billion in donations that had been spent up to April 2.
That revelation resulted in a wave of criticism of the government, with critics describing it as uncaring since so many Jamaicans were in desperate need post-Melissa.
Prime Minister Holness outlined how the donated funds are being used in the restoration effort.
Dr Holness says citizens, especially those who benefit from brand Jamaica should refrain from actions that undermine the country.
