The Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA, is raising concerns over what it says are deplorable teaching conditions and slow repairs of a number of schools in Western Jamaica eight months after Hurricane Melissa.

JTA President Mark Malabver sounded the alarm following a tour of schools out west last week.

The JTA President is decrying what he says are the conditions under the tents being used as classrooms at some school impacted by Melissa.

Mark Malabver says not only are the tents unbearably hot, but some even have mould.

He says these conditions are unacceptable eight months after the passage of the Category 5 Melissa.

Malabver is also unhappy with what he says is the slow progress of repairs to some western schools.
