Jamaica’s athletes produced an impressive performance on the opening day of the World Under-20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Wednesday, with several competitors advancing to the next round.

The mixed 4x400m relay team got Jamaica’s campaign off to an excellent start by winning Heat Two in a season’s best 3:21.47 seconds, securing qualification for the final.

Jamaica’s female sprinters also impressed in the opening round of the 100 metres.

Shanoya Douglas captured Heat One in 11.35 seconds.

Theianna-Lee Terrelonge was equally dominant, taking Heat Four in 11.21 seconds.

In the men’s 100m, Gary Card continued Jamaica’s strong sprint tradition by winning Heat One in 10.07 seconds.

Middle-distance runner Joel Morgan also progressed, finishing fourth in Heat Three of the men’s 800m in 1:51.75 to secure a semi-final berth.

There was further success in the women’s 800m, where Kevongaye Fowler produced a personal best performance of 2:04.31 to finish second in Heat Two.
