Residents served by the Mona Reservoir in St. Andrew should brace for water restrictions, starting Monday, August 3.

The reservoir currently stands at 64 per cent of its over 800 million gallon capacity.

According to the National Water Commission, NWC, the reservoir continues to experience reduced inflows due to ongoing drought conditions.

The NWC says the trend is expected to persist, with below-normal rainfall forecast for the summer period.

The Commission notes that the Mona watershed is supplied by rainfall in both Portland and St Thomas.

However, these parishes are among several forecast to experience drier-than-normal weather conditions.

As such, the NWC says the restrictions are intended to preserve the current water level for as long as possible and reduce the likelihood of more severe regulations.

The Mona Reservoir supplies several communities across the Corporate Area.

These include sections of Old Hope Road, New Kingston, Cross Roads, Mountain View, downtown Kingston and surrounding communities.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for the adjusted supply schedule by storing water responsibly during periods of supply.
