Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding is lamenting what he describes as the arbitrary and unnecessary re-scripting of established rules by the United States of America.

The former prime minister made the comment over the weekend at Team Jamaica Bickle’s ‘Jamaica 64th Independence Gala’ in Philadelphia, in the US.

According to the former prime minister, as an island state vulnerable to external shifts, Jamaica is no stranger to adapting to new regimes.

He pointed to the outcome of the Cold War, the emergence of globalisation and the end of preferential duties and subsidies as examples.

Golding says, however, that the current geopolitical landscape has done away with established rules.

Golding says the US is forcing Jamaica to dispense with its longstanding allies, a move which he says is contributing to Cuba’s worsening humanitarian crisis.

The former PM argues the USA’s actions have weakened regional unity as individual leaders have to act with restraint.

But, he says, he will not resile from voicing concerns about the impact of America’s actions on Jamaica and its people.

Meanwhile, Bruce Golding says Jamaica has much to be proud of, as it celebrates its 64th anniversary of political independence.

He argues that Jamaica has a more stable democracy than larger countries.
