President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has invited Jamaican sprint legend Asafa Powell to visit Ghana, in an effort to inspire a new generation of Ghanaian athletes.
The invitation was extended during President Mahama’s recent State Visit to Jamaica, while touring Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann.
President Mahama said he hopes Powell will attend Ghana’s major national youth sports festival as a special guest, sharing his experience and motivating young athletes to pursue excellence.
Powell, a former world 100-metre record holder and Olympian, welcomed the opportunity, saying he wants to share the lessons from his career while helping to strengthen ties between Jamaica and Ghana.
He said sport, particularly sprinting, can be a powerful tool for diplomacy and cultural exchange.
Powell added that through sport and school programmes, Jamaica and Ghana can bridge the gap between the two countries and build stronger connections based on their shared heritage.
The visit is expected to be coordinated with the assistance of Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Ablakwa.
