Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Sources told Reuters that Indian Oil Corp. (IOC) has stopped loading Iraqi oil from Basrah Oil Terminal due to increasing risk and assaults on vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
Around July 23, the state-run IOC planned to transport 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil via the mega-sized crude carrier Lila Jamnagar.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, a different state refiner, has also halted plans to transport oil from Iraq via the Indian-flagged Aframax tanker Desh Gaurav.
Following the resumption of military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, India has advised shipping companies to refrain from assigning Indian seafarers to vessels operating in that region.
Ship captains were also advised to be cautious regarding security in the Arabian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and surrounding waterways and to continuously check navigational warnings.
Prior to the war, the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman served as the primary transit route for around a fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies.
Tensions have escalated since the truce between Washington and Tehran was broken in early July. This breakdown has resulted in attacks that have disrupted trade through the crucial waterway.
