Jakarta, IO – Three of Indonesia’s four men’s singles players at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games will be making their Asian Games debuts. Alwi Farhan, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah and Muhamad Yusuf are set to experience the Asian Games for the first time.
“We’re definitely grateful and happy to represent Indonesia at the Asian Games. We want to make the most of this opportunity. This is my first Asian Games, and the results Ubed and I achieved at the SEA Games give us good momentum going into a higher-level multi-sport event,” Alwi said.
“My individual preparations have gone smoothly so far, and things have also been going well with the team. We’re ready to compete next week,” added Ubed, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah’s nickname.
Although this will be their first Asian Games, Alwi and Ubed have already competed for Indonesia at major events such as the SEA Games, Sudirman Cup and Thomas Cup.
Yusuf, meanwhile, has yet to compete at a major international event. Support from his more experienced teammates has helped him build confidence ahead of his debut. “I was definitely nervous at first, but the seniors kept reminding me to just enjoy it,” Yusuf said.
“They always tell me to treat it like an individual tournament. Stay focused, keep the energy up and remain calm,” he added.
On the final day of their training camp, the three players had a memorable experience when Japanese badminton legend Kento Momota joined them as a mentor and sparring partner. “We know how dominant Kento Momota was at his peak, so getting to play with him today was really exciting and an honor. It’s an experience I won’t forget,” Alwi said.

“It was great to share the court with him. Momota also gave me some feedback and advice on my game,” Ubed said.
The Indonesian badminton team has now wrapped up its training camp in Tokyo and will travel to Nagoya on Thursday morning, September 17, to move into the athletes’ village.
The badminton competition at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games will run from September 20–24 for the team events and September 25–29 for the individual events at Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi, Japan. (rp)
