Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Deputy Chief of Staff Vice Adm. Edwin waved the starting flag at the 2026 TNI Commander’s Cup Open Dragon Boat Race at Sunter Lake, Jakarta (Sept. 19). The national-level championship brought together athletes from the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), rowing sports organizations, schools, universities and the general public.
Held on Sept. 19–20, the championship became both a training and competitive event for rowing athletes while improving national water sports performance. Not only encouraging the emergence of promising athletes, but the event also provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among the TNI, Polri, sports communities and the public while promoting sportsmanship, healthy lifestyles and national pride.

The competition featured the Men’s Open Dragon Boat category, with 12-person crews racing over 500 meters, and the TNI/Polri Dragon Boat category, also with 12-person crews racing over 500 meters. Dozens of participants from the TNI/Polri, the Indonesian Rowing Association (PODSI), schools, universities and the general public took part in the championship. Winners received trophies, certificates and development grants, with total prize money reaching tens of millions of rupiah.
Through the tournament, TNI AL hopes to increase public interest and participation in rowing and provide athletes and the public with a platform to develop Indonesia’s water sports talent. (IO/Faisal Ramadhan)
