The weather in Uttarakhand remains harsh, with intermittent rain occurring across several regions of the state. Heavy rainfall has severely disrupted normal life. The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several districts today, September 04, 2026. A ‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rain has been issued, and the public has been urged to remain vigilant.
According to the Dehradun Meteorological Centre, isolated heavy rainfall is likely today in the districts of Nainital, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Bageshwar. Thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and spells of intense to very intense rainfall are also predicted across the state. Heavy rains are frequently disrupting connecting roads, and rivers and streams are flowing in spate.
Water levels in several rivers are approaching the danger mark; consequently, the administration has instructed residents living along riverbanks to stay alert. The risk of landslides increases significantly in hilly districts during heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ and advised people to exercise caution. Dehradun is expected to see partly to generally cloudy skies today, with a likelihood of light to moderate rain and potential heavy downpours in some areas. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 30°C.
The administration and the Disaster Management Department have appealed to the public to avoid traveling to hilly areas unless absolutely necessary and to refrain from non-essential travel. People are advised to check weather updates before setting out on a journey. Additionally, District Magistrates across all districts have been instructed to remain on alert and ensure full preparedness to handle any disaster-related situations.
In view of the heavy rainfall, SDRF and NDRF teams have also been placed on high alert. So far this monsoon season, 55 people have lost their lives in incidents related to heavy rain and natural disasters. Meanwhile, more than 1,330 buildings in the state have sustained damage.
