Uttarakhand Plans Hydrogen-Powered Buses on Dehradun-Delhi Route

A major step is being taken to modernize and make the public transport system in Uttarakhand eco-friendly. The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation has accelerated preparations to introduce hydrogen-fuelled buses on the Dehradun-Delhi route. Additionally, an Integrated Command and Control Center will be established for the real-time monitoring of roadways buses, and plans are underway to launch a 24-hour toll-free helpline to address passenger grievances.

UTC planning to run Hydrogen buses on Delhi route

Operational and technical officials from the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation participated in an exhibition organized by the Bus and Car Owners Association of India in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from July 9 to 11. Several models of modern transport technology were showcased at the exhibition, and plans have been made to implement two key models in Uttarakhand. The Corporation will assess the budget requirements for these plans and submit a proposal for financial assistance to the state government.

Hydrogen Buses to Run on Delhi Route First

In the initial phase, the Transport Corporation has begun preparations to operate hydrogen buses on the Uttarakhand-Delhi route. According to officials, this route was selected for the pilot project because hydrogen fuel availability is ensured along the Doon-Delhi Expressway. A detailed proposal will soon be prepared and presented to the Corporation’s board for approval.

Zero Pollution; Passengers May Get Fare Relief

The biggest advantage of hydrogen-fuelled buses is that they result in near-zero carbon emissions.

The Transport Corporation aims to provide better and affordable travel facilities to passengers alongside environmental conservation. Officials state that once the new technology is successfully implemented, passengers may also benefit from fare relief.

Real-Time Monitoring of Every Roadways Bus

Under the new plan, an Integrated Command and Control Center will be established to monitor roadways buses across the state. Through this center, officials will receive real-time information regarding which bus is operating on which route, the bus’s current speed, the frequency and location of stops, and whether express buses are adhering to prescribed regulations. Activities such as unauthorized stops at roadside eateries (dhabas) will also be monitored. This system is expected to improve both transparency in bus operations and passenger safety.
