Tezpur: Nearly a year after the student movement at Tezpur University, students and research scholars are still awaiting a conclusive outcome from the Ministry of Education on the issues raised during the movement.
In a consolidated letter dated 7 September 2026, the students have urged the Ministry to disclose the status and findings of the statutory enquiry constituted under Section 9 of the Tezpur University Act, 1993, concerning the removal of absconding Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh and several unresolved institutional matters.
The enquiry, constituted on 31 December 2025, was due to submit its report by 31 March 2026. Students state that although the Committee has completed its proceedings and submitted its report, its findings and consequential decisions remain undisclosed.
The representation raises concerns regarding student welfare, scarcity of funds and prolonged administrative uncertainty, besides seeking clarity on the delayed Convocation for the graduated batch of 2025.

The students have questioned whether the continuing delay in concluding the matter amounts to retaliation against the institution for stakeholders’ resistance to corruption.
They warn that, if their concerns are not addressed at the earliest, they may be left with no option but to escalate their response, including a complete shutdown of University functioning until the issues are resolved.
They have further stated that in the absence of meaningful communication from the Ministry, stakeholders may make public the documents and evidence already submitted before various fact-finding and enquiry teams.
They also refer to the resolution of the Citizens’ Convention held in Guwahati on 19 December 2025, under which stakeholders may constitute an independent public enquiry committee comprising eminent educationists, RTI activists, human rights defenders, retired University faculty and retired High Court judges.
The students have called upon the Ministry to make the enquiry findings public, clarify the action taken regarding the absconding Vice-Chancellor, fix responsibility wherever established, release pending funds and resolve the Convocation issue.
The students emphasise that their demand is not merely for an administrative change, but for transparency, institutional accountability and restoration of trust. They have sought a written response from the Ministry and a transparent, reasoned and time-bound conclusion to the matter.
