Residents of Semmanchery and Perumbakkam have raised concerns over the persistent illegal garbage burning in a marshy area located behind the Perumbakkam bus depot and the apartment complex nearby.

Residents complained that the burning caused widespread fires that led to thick smoke engulfing the neighbouring areas. This resulted in poor air quality and public health issues such as breathing difficulties. It also emitted a persistent foul smell, particularly at night.
