Property Tax Relief Announced for Eligible Ex-Servicemen and War Widows in Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand government has announced a property tax exemption for ex-servicemen and their widows for the financial year 2026-27. This exemption applies only to ex-servicemen holding the rank of Havildar or equivalent and below. Eligible ex-servicemen or their widows may apply for this exemption between July 15 and March 15 of the following year.

According to the Department of Sainik Welfare, application forms to avail of this scheme can be obtained from the District Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Office between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM. Applications will be accepted solely for the financial year 2026-27. To qualify for the exemption, the house must be registered in the name of the ex-serviceman or the widow. Furthermore, it is mandatory for the applicant to personally reside in the house for which the benefit is sought.

The scheme applies only to residential buildings; exemptions cannot be claimed for properties used for commercial activities or those that have been rented out. Penalties will be imposed if it is discovered that the scheme’s benefits have been claimed for commercial or rented properties.

Application Process

To obtain the application form, applicants must present their original discharge book, military service details, and the identity card issued by the Dehradun office at the District Sainik Welfare Office. Submission of Municipal Corporation bills is also required. Three copies of the filled-out application form must be submitted to the respective Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council (Nagar Palika), or Nagar Panchayat. Additionally, one copy, along with an affidavit, must be submitted to the District Sainik Welfare Office.
