Prayagraj: Passengers travelling through stations under North Central Railway (NCR) can expect better food and drinking water facilities soon, with the Prayagraj Division initiating the process to start more than 100 catering units, multi-purpose units and water vending machines across various stations under its jurisdiction. The plan covers several major stations including Prayagraj, Naini, Subedarganj, Fatehpur, Aligarh, Dadri, Khurja, Manikpur, Khaga, Sirathu, Hathras and Sonbhadra. Railway officials said special emphasis is being laid on improving passenger amenities at small and medium-category stations, where access to food stalls and clean drinking water has remained limited so far.Public relations officer, Prayagraj Division Amit Kumar Singh said that once the new units become operational, passengers will be able to easily access tea, snacks, meals, bottled water and other daily-use items within station premises. The initiative is expected to significantly improve convenience for passengers, particularly those undertaking long-distance journeys. The division has identified more than 80 locations for installation of water vending machines alone. Busy stations such as Subedarganj, Kanpur Anwarganj, Fatehpur, Dadri, Khurja and Hathras are among those where new vending machines will be installed. In addition, several stations will also see the opening of new food stalls to cater to the growing needs of passengers.Apart from enhancing facilities for rail users, the move is also expected to generate employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth and small traders. Railway officials said the expansion of catering and vending services forms part of a broader effort to improve passenger amenities and make station infrastructure more commuter-friendly across the Prayagraj Division.
