The Wyra police arrested a 50-year-old man on Sunday for sexually assaulting a minor girl at Wyra town in Khammam district.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, the police registered a case against Jagadish alias David Raj under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Saturday night.
According to the police, the accused allegedly entered the girl’s house when she was alone and sexually assaulted her.
Sources said that he was a key functionary of a political party and had earlier figured in a rowdy sheet, which was subsequently withdrawn. Further investigation is underway.
