A leopard entered a liquor shop shortly after it opened in Rajasthan’s Tonk district on Monday and attacked two employees before they escaped and locked the animal inside the premises from outside. The incident took place in Todaraisingh town.

Earlier in the day, the leopard had also allegedly attacked a forest volunteer near a forest outpost, leaving him injured. Forest officials said leopard movement had been reported for several days in the forest stretch between Todaraisingh and Bisalpur, and that leopards had also been spotted earlier near temples and hillocks on the outskirts of the town.

According to the account from the main market in Todaraisingh, a salesman had just opened the liquor shop and was checking the cash when the leopard, believed to have strayed from the nearby forest, quietly entered the premises. The animal moved in so silently that neither the salesman nor his colleague noticed it until it suddenly turned aggressive and attacked the salesman, injuring him. It then attacked another employee seated in a different section of the shop.

Both men then managed to rush out of the shop and pull down the shutter from outside, trapping the leopard inside. The injured salesman was referred to Tonk for further treatment, while the other employee was given first aid in Todaraisingh.

CCTV footage shows the leopard entering the liquor shop and attacking a man on its way in.

It then climbs onto a table and, as the shopkeeper approaches to inspect the area, suddenly pounces on him before running deeper into the shop.

Another clip shows the animal hiding beneath a rack of bottles.

Earlier, the same leopard allegedly attacked forest volunteer Rakesh Saini near a forest outpost. He suffered injuries to his legs in the attack.

After the leopard was confined inside the shop, a large crowd gathered outside the premises. Assistant Conservator of Forests Anurag Maharshi and his team reached the spot from Tonk, while a specialised team from Jaipur Zoo was called to tranquilise and safely capture the animal. Police personnel were also deployed at the scene and faced difficulty in controlling the crowd gathered around the shop.

The incident left two liquor shop employees and a forest volunteer injured, while forest and police teams began efforts to secure the area and capture the leopard locked inside the shop.
