ANANTAPUR: M. Eswar, a young trekker from a Dalit colony in Madakasira of Sri Sathya Sai district, has added another milestone by successfully leading a team of differently-abled students from Andhra Pradesh to the Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
Popularly known as “Kilimanjaro Eswar” for scaling Mount Kilimanjaro earlier, he led a 21-member group of children with special needs (CwSN) from government schools to an altitude of 5,364 metres (17,598 feet), marking what is being described as a first-of-its-kind achievement.
The 16-day expedition, organised under the Samagra Shiksha initiative of the school education department, began on April 15 after being flagged off by minister Nara Lokesh at his Undavalli residence, and concluded successfully on April 26.
The achievement drew praise from the Indian Embassy in Nepal, where Counsellor Geetanjali felicitated Eswar and the team, congratulating them on completing the challenging trek.
Eswar played a key role as coach and mentor, guiding the team through the demanding terrain and ensuring its successful completion.
The expedition, undertaken at the instance of education minister Nara Lokesh, is seen as a testament to the state government’s commitment to empowering differently-abled students and promoting inclusive development.
Madakasira Abhimanyu Youth Association president Nagendra congratulated Eswar and the team for their achievement.
The successful completion of the Everest Base Camp trek by differently-abled students has drawn wide appreciation and is being hailed as an inspiring example of determination and inclusive empowerment.
