Badrinath, September 19, 2026: Amid the sacred landscape of Badrinath and the majestic Himalayan ranges, the Devbhoomi Cultural Festival-2026 was inaugurated on Saturday at the Tourist Arrival Plaza in Badrinath.
Organized under Operation Sadbhavana through the joint efforts of the Indian Army and the Chamoli District Administration, the two-day festival is being held with the theme “Our Heritage, Our Future.” The event brings together devotees, tourists, local residents, students, artists, women’s self-help groups and local entrepreneurs on a common platform celebrating Uttarakhand’s cultural identity.
Garhwali Folk Culture Takes Centre Stage
The festival offered visitors an immersive experience of Uttarakhand’s rich folk traditions through vibrant cultural performances. Garhwali folk songs, traditional music and folk dances, including Pandav and Chholiya, captivated audiences at the venue.
Artists showcased the cultural diversity, traditional practices and Himalayan way of life associated with Devbhoomi, giving pilgrims and tourists an opportunity to experience the region beyond its religious significance.
Students from various schools and colleges also actively participated in cultural performances and other activities, helping connect younger generations with their traditional art, music and heritage.
Local Products and Women Entrepreneurs Attract Visitors
A variety of stalls at the festival emerged as a major attraction, showcasing the products and skills of local communities.
Visitors explored and purchased handicrafts, handloom products, woollen garments, organic produce, traditional jewellery, local spices, herbal products, wooden artefacts and traditional hill cuisine.
Products prepared by women’s self-help groups and local entrepreneurs received particular appreciation. The festival is providing these groups with a platform not only to showcase their products but also to access potential customers and promote self-employment.
The initiative highlights the role of local entrepreneurship in strengthening livelihoods and supporting economic activity in Himalayan border areas.
Indian Army Exhibition Offers Insight into Border Life
A special exhibition by the Indian Army was another key attraction. Students and young visitors were given an opportunity to learn about modern military equipment, the lives of soldiers serving in border areas, disaster-relief operations and various public-service initiatives undertaken by the Army.
The exhibition also provided visitors with a closer understanding of the Army’s presence and responsibilities in the Himalayan border regions and its broader contribution to nation-building.

The Devbhoomi Cultural Festival seeks to strengthen the connection between religious tourism, cultural tourism and border tourism.
Pilgrims and tourists visiting Badrinath Dham are being introduced to Uttarakhand’s local cuisine, handicrafts, traditions and entrepreneurial products. The initiative is also expected to create opportunities for local businesses, including hotels, homestays, transport operators, eateries and other tourism-linked services.
