With Vedic chants, religious rituals, and chants of “Jai Maa Ganga,” the doors of Gangotri Dham were opened for devotees on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on April 19th, 2026. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally witnessed this divine moment. Thousands of pilgrims were present in the temple premises at the time of the opening of the doors. During this, chants of “Har Har Gange” and “Jai Maa Ganga” filled the entire Gangotri Dham. At 12:15 p.m., the doors of the Gangotri Temple were opened for devotees. During this time, flowers were showered on the devotees present at the Dham from a helicopter.
On Sunday, the festive palanquin of Mother Ganga departed from Bhairav Valley early in the morning for the opening of the doors of Gangotri Dham. Prior to this, special prayers were offered to Mother Ganga in Bhairav Valley. After this, the procession departed for Gangotri Dham. Following the ritualistic worship of the Ganges, the recitation of the Ganga Sahasnama, and special prayers, accompanied by Vedic chanting, the doors of the shrine were opened to devotees at 12:15 p.m.
On the very first day, thousands of pilgrims visited Gangotri Dham and received the blessings of visiting and worshipping the Ganges. Temple Committee Secretary Suresh Semwal stated that the doors of Gangotri Dham were opened to devotees at 12:15 p.m., in accordance with the rituals and the auspicious time.
Gangotri Dham Doors Open
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami personally arrived at Gangotri Dham before the doors opened. CM Dhami’s helicopter landed at the Harshil helipad. Party workers and local residents welcomed him. From Harshil, the Chief Minister arrived at Gangotri Dham by car. A large crowd of devotees was present at the opening of the doors of Gangotri Dham today. The temple has been lavishly decorated with flowers. Now, during the Chardham Yatra which will continue for the next 6 months, Aarti and darshan of Mother Ganga will be held daily.
