A World War II-era German motorcycle recovered last weekend from the receding Danube in Budapest was found alongside the remains of German soldiers, Honvedelem.hu reported. The motorcycle’s saddlebag contained a Bosch W 175 T 1 spark plug and Bakelite spark plug holder, an oil bottle, a tube of grease, electrical tape, a cylinder head wrench, a spark plug wrench, a small wire brush, and a tire pressure gauge.
The tire repair kit’s adhesive and patches were also still intact, and the institute’s experts found a chain link, a few screw heads, a hammer head, and V-belts when they opened the side case of the German-made DKW NZ 350-1 motorcycle.

The staff at the Institute and Museum of Military History (HM HIM) will clean and preserve the artifacts, and restore any artifacts that can be preserved in this way.

According to a comment on the institute’s post, the remains and identification tags of a Wehrmacht soldier and a Waffen-SS soldier were found next to the motorcycle, along with a decoration known as the “Kuban Shield,” awarded to soldiers who fought in the defense of the Kuban bridgehead between February and October 1943.

HM HIM previously reported on its social media page that cleaning and urgent preservation work had begun on the World War II motorcycle discovered over the weekend in the Danube riverbed, where water levels were at a record low.
