The Supervisor of Elections has officially announced that the Writ for the upcoming General Election was received at 3:45 pm on 2 October 2026.

Please note that the issuance of the Writ officially closes voter registration. Registration will remain suspended until after the conclusion of the General Election.

The official Writ outlines the critical timeline for the election process, specifying:

  • Nomination Day: The official date and timeframe for candidates to be formally nominated
  • Polling Day: The official date for the taking of the poll (voting day), which must fall between 15 and 21 days after Nomination Day
  • Return of the Writ: The deadline by which the final election results and the Writ must be formally returned to the Governor-General
