Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has announced that schools in the Central and Eastern Divisions will reopen on Friday, 10 April, while those in the Western Division will remain closed due to ongoing safety concerns.

He confirmed that all schools nationwide are expected to resume full and normal operations by Monday, 13 April. Meanwhile, schools in the Northern Division will continue classes as usual.

The decision follows the latest assessments conducted in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office. Reports indicate that several evacuation centres are still active in the Western Division, including facilities in Ba, Tavua, Lautoka, Nadi, Yasawa, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa.

Authorities have also highlighted continuing challenges in the West, such as disruptions to power and water supply, as well as unsafe access routes. Long travel distances for students have also been identified as an added risk under current conditions.

Parents and guardians are being urged to keep children at home where schools remain closed and to strictly avoid allowing them to cross flooded areas. Students are encouraged to continue learning from home through reading and revision.

School heads have been directed to maintain communication with Divisional Education Offices and provide updates on staff and student learning activities. The Ministry says it will continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates as needed.

Minister Radrodro also conveyed his well wishes for the safety and wellbeing of all Fijians and visitors.
