Albert Park Set for Hibiscus Festival

After more than a decade, families and friends will once again gather at Albert Park as the Hibiscus Festival returns to its traditional home for its 70th celebration.

The Hibiscus Festival was moved to the Suva Foreshore in 2015 following the redevelopment of Albert Park.

Now, 11 years later, the Suva City Council has confirmed that the Mother of All Festivals will return to the historic venue.

Suva City Council, Acting Chief Executive Officer Tevita Boseiwaqa highlighted that preparations for the festival are well underway, with organisers expecting larger crowds and a bigger celebration than previous years.

“What I can say now, it’s going to be the biggest one. It’s going to be a very big festival because it’s the 70th. We’ll launch it, and it’s going to be a big Hibiscus” Boseiwaqa highlighted.

Boseiwaqa said the decision to move the festival back to Albert Park was also influenced by the need to cater for the anticipated increase in attendance.

He added that the larger venue will provide more space for festival activities and visitors throughout the event.

“As I said, it’s going to be a big one. We’re expecting it’s a big festival, and we need a bigger space. So that’s why we are moving it to Albert Park” he added.
