Narube urges PM to ‘stop the legal drama’

Leader of Unity Fiji Savenaca Narube has called on Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to “stop the legal drama,” warning that ongoing legal battles are costing taxpayers and distracting the Government from urgent national priorities.

Narube said he was increasingly concerned about the quality of legal decisions made by the Prime Minister, pointing to issues surrounding the Commission of Inquiry report, constitutional amendments and developments at the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Narube acknowledged the Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament that he was personally responsible for key decisions, but stressed that leadership also requires accountability.

He criticised the handling of the Malimali case, alleging legal processes were not properly followed from the outset.

He also raised concerns about the Prime Minister’s decision to appeal a High Court ruling despite contrary legal advice, saying public funds should not be used to pursue matters driven by personal grievances.

Narube further questioned the continued vacancy in the Attorney-General’s position following the dismissal of Graham Leung, suggesting the absence of leadership may be contributing to delays in key legislation.

He urged the Government to refocus on governance, essential services and national challenges, warning that continued legal disputes risk undermining public confidence
