Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) has called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of Ellington Jetty, amid ongoing disruptions affecting passenger services.

In a statement, the company urged the public not to be misled by what it described as inaccurate or unverified information surrounding the situation at the jetty.

GSL questioned why an approved berthing schedule — issued under the authority of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji — was not being followed.

“Why is the approved schedule not being followed as required?” the company asked.

The company also called on MSAF to take responsibility for the ongoing issues.

“This schedule was approved under your authority, so why are vessels being cleared to sail despite knowing the likely outcome?” the statement said.

GSL further claimed that decisions were being made without transparency, adding that the public deserved clear leadership on the matter.

The company released an email it says was issued by the acting MSAF acting chief executive outlining an agreed operational schedule for vessels using Ellington Jetty.

The email shows Interlink is to depart Ellington at 5am and arrive at Nabouwalu at 8am for a quick turnaround and depart Nabouwalu by 9am for Ellington.

The MSAF email indicates when arriving at 12pm at Ellington, Interlink is to discharge anchor out to allow space for Goundar to load for their afternoon trip.
