Fuel and gas prices to increase from tomorrow

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission say the new prices reflect rising costs in the global market.

Diesel will see the biggest jump, increasing by 93 cents per litre. Kerosene will go up by 59 cents, while motor spirit will rise by 20 cents per litre. Premix will increase by 22 cents.

The FCCC says global fuel prices have been unstable in recent months due to supply disruptions and higher shipping costs.

It adds that instead of passing the full increase at once, it has spread the cost over time to reduce the impact on households and businesses.

A 12kg gas cylinder will increase by 16 cents to $37.58, while a 4.5kg cylinder will rise by 6 cents to $14.09.

Bulk gas and autogas will also see small increases of about 1 to 2 cents.

The FCCC is warning retailers to follow the approved prices, with inspections to be carried out across the country.
