Students at Nalotawa District School in the interior of Ba have received much-needed support aimed at improving their living conditions.

Earlier this month, the school was provided with 40 mattresses along with two water tanks, easing long-standing concerns over student accommodation and water access.

The assistance stems from a pledge made during a visit last year by the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, under the Government’s REACH Program.

During that visit, members of the school community highlighted difficulties faced by boarding students, particularly the lack of proper bedding and unreliable water supply.

Nalotawa District School caters to 91 students drawn from seven villages within the Yakete District. Operating as a boarding institution from early childhood education through to Year 8, many of its students reside on campus during school terms.

The latest support reflects ongoing government efforts to address challenges in remote communities, with outreach initiatives such as the REACH Program focusing on creating safer and more supportive learning environments for children.
