The Ministry of Health has clarified how ambulance services are coordinated across the country, emphasizing that hospital-based ambulances are primarily designated for inter-facility patient transfers along with medical personnel.
According to the Ministry, emergency retrievals from homes or other locations fall under the responsibility of the National Fire Authority (NFA).
Once contacted, the NFA assesses the situation and may involve St John Ambulance if necessary.
In situations where both public options are unavailable or fully engaged, the public is advised to seek assistance from licensed private ambulance providers, including Bula Ambulance, Zens Medical Ambulance, and Nakasi Medical Center Ambulance.
The Ministry noted that this system has been in place for years and remains unchanged.
Additionally, hotels and resorts are encouraged to establish arrangements with private ambulance operators and ensure they have internal medical support systems available for guests.
