NATION URGED TO CLEAN UP AHEAD OF KING’S DOUBLE MILESTONE

BY TANDZILE DLAMINI

MBABANE The Eswatini Environment Authority has called on emaSwati to take responsibility for cleanliness as the country prepares to mark the 58th birthday and 40th anniversary of the reign of King Mswati III.

Executive Director Gcina Dladla issued a firm warning against littering, declaring: “Do not throw anything away, there is no place called away.”

He said every liSwati must ensure their immediate surroundings are free of litter, stressing that cleanliness is a hallmark of the nation that should be upheld, especially during a time when the country will be under international spotlight.

“As the Kingdom prepares for this momentous occasion, let us present our nation at its finest by welcoming international dignitaries and visitors to a clean and beautiful Eswatini,” he said.

The call places responsibility at household and community level, with individuals expected to take charge of yards, streets, public spaces and workplaces to ensure a visibly clean environment ahead of the celebrations.

The message also reinforces a broader environmental concern, as improper waste disposal continues to affect urban and rural areas, often leaving plastics and other litter in open spaces, drainage systems and along roadsides. Maintaining clean surroundings is widely seen as key to protecting both public health and the natural environment.

With preparations intensifying across the country, attention is now extending beyond events and infrastructure to include environmental standards and public conduct. A clean environment is expected to play a role in shaping the experience of visiting guests and reflecting national pride.
