EZULWINI – The world class technology systems and internet speed at Ezulwini Palazzo has greatly impressed visiting Organisation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Manager.
In an interview with Eswatini Positive News, the ICT Manager, Atine John Bosco based in Belgium, said he has been blown away by the state-of-the-art technology set-up that is holding strong and proud to be a part of the advance technical team in making sure the host country agreement parameters in relation to technology needs are met.
“I am the ICT Manager for the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). We are based in Brussels, and our organisation is composed of 79 member states — 48 countries from Africa, 15 from the Pacific, and 16 from the Caribbean.
This is the first time we are coming to the Kingdom of Eswatini for this Parliamentary Assembly meeting for the African region, and we are deeply honoured to be here.”
He said he was part of the technical team that was sent to assess the readiness of the country in hosting such an important continental meeting. The ICT Expert highlighted that they were sent by the OACPS Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Moussa Batraki, who has been driving several important pillars within the organisation.
“The pillar under which I directly fall is digital transformation.
A lot has been achieved, not only at the Secretariat level, but also through our engagements with member states that host meetings of this magnitude. The Kingdom of Eswatini has truly demonstrated exceptional commitment, and today we are very grateful to His Majesty the King for hosting us. We also extend our sincere appreciation to H.E. Sibusisiwe Mngomezulu the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Eswatini based in Brussels and accredited to the greater Europe region,” he said.
The ICT specialist said the meeting has shown them that when there is strong engagement at a technical level, a great deal can be accomplished.
“We set the bar very high for this meeting, and I must honestly say that I have been truly impressed. Everything that we requested or advised on from the ICT side was provided. I have personally been coming here almost daily since the 27th, continuously checking and monitoring preparations. What has been achieved here is remarkable. You have not only improved the infrastructure of this venue, but you have also put systems in place that will serve this facility for many years to come. Future improvements will simply be upgrades on an already strong foundation,” he said.
He added that the bandwidth and connectivity have been excellent. They requested speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second, and the communications company successfully delivered on that requirement, he said.
On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, and on behalf of their hardworking Secretary-General, he said, he would like to sincerely thank the management of the facility, the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of this important meeting.
