Synopsis: Captain Puoy Sorvandeth is detained for questioning following an operation targeting illegal narcotics.
A deputy police chief in Takeo province’s Angkor Borey district has been arrested over alleged involvement in drug trafficking and sent to Takeo Provincial Court for legal proceedings, a provincial police official said.
Lieutenant Colonel Yem Yun, deputy chief of the Takeo Provincial Anti-Drug Trafficking Unit, identified the suspect as Captain Puoy Sorvandeth, deputy police chief of Angkor Borey district, who resides in the same district.
He said Capt Sorvandeth was arrested on Friday in connection with a drug trafficking offence committed in Takeo province.
Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to Takeo Provincial Police Headquarters for questioning and investigation, he added.
Lt Col Yun declined to provide further details about the case.
Dy Ravuth, deputy police chief of Angkor Borey District, confirmed the arrest, saying Capt. Sorvandeth had been detained in connection with a drug-related offence.
He said the suspect is under investigation and is temporarily held at the provincial police headquarters.
Takeo Provincial Police Chief Major General Men Ly and Brigadier General Sao Sarun could not be reached for comment.
