Hun Manet tells Sam An to send proof of land loss claims

Synopsis: Prime minister offers self-exiled politician a chance to present evidence to substantiate his allegations.

Prime Minister Hun Manet has given exiled opposition politician Um Sam An the option of appointing a representative to verify documents concerning claims that Cambodia lost territory to Thailand between boundary markers 52 and 59.

In a message posted online, Mr Hun Manet said the option allows Sam An’s team to present the evidence for his allegations, enabling the government border working group to examine the claims and dispel public doubts.

Sam An can participate in discussions in person or appoint representatives from abroad or within Cambodia, with safety guaranteed for all participants.

However, Mr Hun Manet set four conditions. First, Sam An must grant representatives full authority to discuss and verify evidence. Second, he must provide all documents, evidence and witnesses. Third, he must accept statements made by his representatives. Fourth, he must accept verification results.

Mr Hun Manet said the government remains open to direct participation without additional conditions or the appointment of representatives.

The offer follows statements by Sam An on social media and in interviews concerning the border area between boundary markers 52 and 59, alongside concerns about arrest upon his return.

Mr Hun Manet had challenged Sam An to identify documents supporting claims of lost territory, saying allegations require verifiable information rather than unsubstantiated statements.

He criticised Sam An for imposing conditions and seeking amnesty, arguing such demands divert attention from verifying evidence.

The prime minister appealed to citizens across the political spectrum to allow the government to handle border issues responsibly.

“Alleging that the government has ceded territory to Thailand between boundary markers 52 and 59 is a serious accusation that requires clear evidence,” Mr Hun Manet said, expressing hope that Sam An would take the opportunity to clarify the facts.
