Cambodian and Singaporean police have foiled a business email compromise scam, intercepting and recovering $12.8 million transferred from a Singapore-based oil company.
The operation began on Monday after Singaporean authorities alerted Cambodian police that the firm had been tricked via a fraudulent email into sending funds to a bank account in Cambodia.
Working alongside the National Bank of Cambodia and financial authorities, Cambodian police froze the suspicious account and safely returned the full amount to the victim.
National Police officials said that the successful interception demonstrates strong international cooperation and commitment to tackling cross-border cyber fraud.
